Holiday Blogging – How to Increase Traffic and Business With Your Holiday Blog
You’ve decided that a holiday blog makes sense for you and now you’re just a little bit anxious about starting it up. What exactly should you write about? It doesn’t have to be about the holiday – for instance, you could choose to write about New Year’s resolutions or personal growth. But there are some things that you’ll want to avoid. One of these is negativity. Keep your blog positive and informative.
Blogging about the holidays is one of the best ways to connect with other readers and share your thoughts about the holidays. A blog is essentially a personal or diurnal commentary posted on the Internet, usually in reverse chronological order, indicating the date by which the post was made. Posts are generally displayed in reverse chronological order, meaning that the latest post appearing at the top of the page is always first, followed by previous posts in descending order. (The exception to this rule is when the blog creates polls; in those cases, posts that result in a majority answer are listed in reverse order of their number in the poll.)
The first thing to do when starting a holiday blog is to find a topic you’re interested in writing about. This may seem obvious, but many new bloggers seem to pick topics that aren’t in their best interest. Take, for example, ideas about food that aren’t actually related to the holiday. If you’re blogging about low carb diets during the Christmas holiday season, don’t write about what to eat for dinner on December 3rd! Write about Christmas food instead.
You should also be aware that many people enjoy reading gift guides during the holiday season. You may want to write about gift giving ideas for the season as well. Again, think about your audience. If you have a predominantly Christian audience, you may not want to write about Christmas toys and decorations. On the other hand, if you have a primarily Jewish audience, you may not want to ignore the holiday gifts market. Again, you’ll want to consider your audience so that you can avoid topics that may turn off one segment of your readership while attracting others who will appreciate the gift guide.
Once you have a topic or topics you wish to blog about during the holiday season, you need to start thinking about your readership. Remember, you want to attract as many readers as possible, but you don’t want to overwhelm them. That’s why most blogging users choose one topic that will interest a broad audience and then expand on that topic a bit. Remember, don’t talk down to your readers, as this will not help you build a loyal audience.
Finally, another great way to increase traffic to your blog is to create a Twitter account for your site. This is especially helpful if you want to reach out to potential clients and readers on a regular basis. Twitter is a great way to let people know what you are doing and where you are doing it. It also allows you to follow other people’s comments as well as those of your competitors. If you manage to get followers who are followers of your chosen topic, this is an excellent way to find new customers.
